Do they provide hormone therapy in federal prison?

Bradley Manning announces he (she?) wants to live as a woman named Chelsea

Once I stopped laughing, it occurred to me that Manning might be crazy like a fox. When you're in as much trouble as he, er . . . she, is, it sure can't hurt to have some advocacy group ready to champion your cause. Why not announce that you want to be a T? The LGBT crowd will immediately become your fan club, and might even raise money to pay your legal expenses. Of course, once you publicly announce your intentions, you might actually have to do it. No more place in the Blue Jays' starting rotation for, um, Chelsea. CBS News:
Manning announced the decision in a written statement provided to NBC's "Today" show, asking supporters to refer to him by his new name and the feminine pronoun. The statement was signed "Chelsea E. Manning." "As I transition into this next phase of my life, I want everyone to know the real me. I am Chelsea Manning. I am a female. Given the way that I feel, and have felt since childhood, I want to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible," the statement read. Manning's defense attorney David Coombs told "Today" in an interview that he is hoping officials at the military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., will accommodate Manning's request for hormone therapy.

"If Fort Leavenworth does not, then I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure they are forced to do so," Coombs said. Maybe that's his (her?) out. You make a cause celeb of yourself, knowing full well that Fort Leavenworth isn't going to give you want you want, so you just get lavished with attention and praise from your fans, and once you're paroled, you go on the LGBT speaking circuit, do book-signings in San Francisco. It's not a bad plan when you think about it. Nice thinking, Bradley. Er, Chelsea. You go, girl! Say, one question: One of the arguments you hear in favor of homosexuality is that it's "how God made them." I don't agree, but that's what they say. So if "how God made you" is important . . . you know where I'm going with this.
