Preliminary house shopping online, viewing slide shows and virtual 360-degree tours of homes


WHEN Robert and Patty Mittleman shopped for a new home 11 years ago, what they saw, before settling on their five-bedroom three-bath center-hall colonial on an acre here, was “whatever the agent took you to,” recalled Mr. Mittleman, the owner of a local personal training studio.

These days they are doing preliminary house shopping online, viewing slide shows and virtual 360-degree tours of homes that fit their criteria in the Syosset school district. “Now you can even have the layout of the house in advance,” said Mr. Mittleman, adding that via the Web, it’s even possible to check whether a backyard is big enough for their children, 8, 12, and 13, to play Wiffle ball.
