President Obama’s job approval rating has plunged to the lowest of his presidency, according to a new CBS News poll released Wednesday, and Americans’ approval of the Affordable Care Act has dropped its lowest since CBS News started polling on the law. Thirty-seven percent now approve of the job Mr. Obama is doing as president, down from 46 percent in October - a nine point drop in just a month. Mr. Obama’s disapproval rating is 57 percent - the highest level for this president in CBS News Polls.
Almost six in ten Democrats continue to support the law, but their support has dropped 16 points from last month - from 74 percent in October to 58 percent today. Support has dropped 11 points among independents and five points among Republicans. The administration likes to say that this is just a temporary situation - that once the website is fixed these numbers will bounce right back. Unfortunately for them, it's usually harder to rebuild trust and support that you've lost, than it is to maintain the trust you already have. Add to that the near certainty that Obamacare is headed for even rockier waters between now and January, and you've got a lame duck recipe that's difficult to ignore. The CBS poll also claims that 43% now think the law should be repealed. That's already a number that will look somewhat attractive to endangered congressional Democrats seeking reelection. As more and more people learn the truth of the President's signature law, expect it to grow. The blistering CBS News report is attached.
