Ceremony to honour Babcock, First World War veterans



By Tony Lofaro, The Ottawa CitizenMarch 3, 2010 John Babcock, the last known Canadian veteran of the First World War, and all other veterans who served in that war will be honoured at a national commemorative ceremony, the federal government announced Tuesday.

The ceremony will be held on the anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Vimy Ridge on Friday, April 9, at the National War Memorial. It will coincide with similar ceremonies across Canada, as well as at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France and the Canada Memorial at Green Park in London, England. Special books that the public can sign to pay their respects in honour of the veterans will soon be available at Parliament Hill, Rideau Hall, the Canadian War Museum, National Defence headquarters and each provincial legislature.
