Faced with obvious, compelling, and inarguably horrific undercover of various Planned Parenthood personnel haggling over the price of ground up baby parts, Democrats did the only thing they could. They refused to watch the videos and pretended the whole thing was a lie. You've undoubtedly heard a couple variations of their two main claims. The tapes were "deceptive," or they were "heavily edited." They weren’t, but it doesn't really matter if they were or not since most prominent Dems won't even admit to having seen them. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee subpoenaed the recordings last month as part of an investigation into whether Planned Parenthood has illegally sold tissue from aborted fetuses for profit. The videos could help resolve conflicting claims about whether shorter versions that abortion activists began posting online this summer were misleadingly edited. The chairman, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said he has set up a viewing room where Republican and Democratic lawmakers and aides can see the recordings. He said the videos will not be released to the public now "out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety and security of all individuals recorded."If you're curious about just how much video there is, well....it's a lot.
Chaffetz said the footage contains nearly 800 gigabytes of data, which he said means it will take investigators "significant time to evaluate." Though recording techniques vary and make estimates difficult, that amount of data is roughly equivalent to several dozen DVDs worth of movies.Specifically, a DVD holds a little under 8.5 gigabytes of data, while a Blu-ray holds just under 50 gigs. We don't know what resolution the video was shot at, so the running time is practically impossible to calculate. If it was shot in HD and compressed later, there will be less video to sift through. If it was shot at a lower resolution, there will be much, much, more. Given the quality of what's been released so far, you can bet there are at the very least dozens, if not hundreds, of hours of footage. So, if you're Nancy Pelosi, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Barack Obama, or any of the other high-level recipients of Planned Parenthood campaign donations; pop some corn, head over to Chaffetz's viewing room, and brace yourself for the abject horror the rest of us have already witnessed. You've got a lot of catching up to do.
