Riiight. We're sure that show no one heard of was really popular

Chelsea Handler ends that show you weren't watching so she can 'focus on activism'

If you've heard anything about Chelsea Handler over the course of the last two years, it was probably because the vulgar, unfunny, comedian was lashing out about politics. She hates Trump, despises Republicans, and loves posting vulgar pseudo-jokes about the people she hates. Here's a sample of her super-funny "comedy."
Yeah. Hilarious, right? As I said, it's been two years of ...whatever that is. You can call it "constant rage," I guess. Remember, this is the same woman who promised to move to Spain after Trump won. Apparently, that never happened because - in a shocking turn of events - she's been hosting a late-night talk show all this time. No, really. I'm not making that up. She had a talk show. It was on Netflix, and if you've never met a single person who's watched it, you're not alone. Anyway, it's going off the air. From the AP:
Chelsea Handler says she is ending her weekly Netflix talk show after two seasons in order to focus on political activism. Handler says in a statement that she plans to devote as much time as she can to become “a more knowledgeable and engaged citizen” and take on projects that have personal significance. The comedian adds that her goal is to be better informed and “participate in a more meaningful way.” Handler says a Netflix documentary is in the works where she will engage with “people of different ethnicities, religions and political philosophies.” Handler launched “Chelsea” on Netflix last year after a seven-year run on E! hosting the nightly “Chelsea Lately,” which ended in 2014.

Quitting a once-a-week talk show to "focus on activism," absolutely reeks of an excuse. Most talk show hosts do 4 or 5 shows a week. For those hosts, you could make a good argument that there's little time for anything else. For someone taping one hour of TV every 7 days, that becomes a tough claim to make - particularly when the only thing most people know about Handler already stems from her political tirades. We should point out that Netflix never releases ratings information. They don't talk about how many times a show is streamed, and they don't like to get into discussions about budgetary matters. So, we really have no way of knowing with 100% certainty why Handler's show is going bye-bye. I suppose it's possible - however unlikely - that Handler really did walk away. However, if there's one truism in Hollywood, it's that no one leaves money on the table. If the show was performing well, it's a safe bet they'd keep it around, and it's an equally safe bet that Handler would like to keep getting that paycheck. Regardless of her reasons, it's nice to know there's one less vulgar left-wing talk show host out there.
