Climate Activists’ Exaggerations Will Damage Environmentalism

Batten down the hatches: more climate alarmism on the way


By Tom Harris With the United Nations Climate Change Conference coming up at the end of the month in Cancun, Mexico, we will soon be inundated with visions of future calamity. “The science of climate change is settled,” U.N. officials and national leaders will warn. “Only ‘climate change deniers’, unqualified outcasts from the scientific community, oppose the consensus of leading experts that our greenhouse gas emissions are causing a global climate catastrophe.”

The public is beginning to recognize this as unadulterated nonsense. First, consider the denier label. No rational scientist denies climate change. As professor Tim Patterson of Carleton University’s Department of Earth Sciences testified before the House of Commons Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development in 2005, “Based on the paleoclimatic data I and others have collected, it's obvious that climate is and always has been variable. In fact, the only constant about climate is change; it changes continually.” More...
