Time to show this enemy that terror will bring the same reaction as with the Coptic Christian community. It will backfire and we will prevail

Coptic Christians and the Way to Victory

"Daesh' s [ISIS' s] message is clear: No one is safe anywhere, including in non-Muslim lands, until the whole world is brought under "proper Islamic rule." --Amir Tehar, New York Post In the latest Islamic State (Daesh) horror, the world was shown yet another example of brutal mass murder. Sometime after the grisly burning alive of the Jordanian Pilot and retaliation by Jordan, a Daesh affiliate in Libya planned and executed the beheading of 21 Coptic (Egyptian) Christian hostages. These Coptic Christian fishermen had traveled to Libya to find some means of providing for their families.
The Daesh spokesman at their execution made clear these men were murdered for their Christian religion, and warned that Daesh would conquer "Rome" as the victims' blood flowed into the Mediterranean Sea. The video of the murders was another elaborate production, which--according to video experts--was modified to exaggerate the amount of blood allegedly flowing from the bodies of the slain and to make the executioners appear to be over a foot taller than their victims. Interestingly, the reactions of the families of the slain help provide a method of defeating the ideology of this enemy. Let me explain. First, we must recognize the enemy we face and the Islamic basis of the enemy' s ideology. Lt. General Michael T. Flynn, former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, summed it up in a recent article: "We, as a nation, must accept and face the reality that we and other contributing nations of the world are at war, and not just in Iraq. We are in a global war with a radical and violent form of the Islamic religion, and it is irresponsible and dangerous to deny it. This enemy is far broader than the 40,000 or so fighters in the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. There also exists a large segment of this radical version of Islam in over 90 nations abroad as well as here at home... As abhorrent as this form of radical Islam is, we must recognize and understand that it is a political ideology with the foundation of its laws emanating from the Qur' an and the Prophet' s life as its guide—and nothing else is needed."

Aim of Daesh is for their example of brutality be copied by Muslims worldwide until the non-Muslim world agrees to a worldwide Sharia Law Caliphate to buy peace from the terror

Those we face and those who support Daesh and other radical Islamic groups are not just a "tiny number of extremists." Additionally, this threat will not end by addressing alleged grievances or finding jobs, as a recent Obama State Department spokeswoman opined. Their actions, though despicable and inhuman, do follow a plan which has a sinister but comprehensible vision. The beheadings, crucifixions, immolation, rapes, etc. are part of an overall strategy to achieve the aim of a new worldwide Sharia Law Caliphate. Moreover, it follows examples of methods used throughout 1,400 years of Jihad which conquered all of the Middle East, North Africa, Spain, and much of the Byzantine and Persian empires within 90 years of Mohammed's death. Daesh spokesman Abu Mohamed al-Adnani praised the Islamist massacre of journalists in Paris, and in September exhorted Muslims worldwide to murder "a disbelieving American or European--especially the spiteful and filthy French--or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the disbelievers waging war, including the citizens of the countries that entered into a coalition against the Islamic State... Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him." To most Westerners, this seems insane, and yet the aim of Daesh is for their example of brutality be copied by Muslims worldwide until the non-Muslim world agrees to a worldwide Sharia Law Caliphate to buy peace from the terror. Greame Wood writing in the Atlantic Monthly explained the strategy of terror as "The Prophetic methodology... which means following the prophecy and example of Muhammad, in punctilious detail." Radical Islamist London Imam Anjem Choudary told Graeme that crucifixions and beheadings are sacred mandates of the Koran to "terrorize the enemy and shorten wars." The reaction of the Coptic Christians to the recent massacre gives an example of one way to defeat the ideology of our enemy. To put it simply, the Coptic Christian community behaved in a matter never intended by Daesh terror. Instead of being scared, shaken, and demoralized, the family and friends of the slain Coptic Christians actually rejoiced. On Christian radio with host Maher Fayez, Coptic Christian Beshir Kamel claimed to be proud of his two martyred brothers, Bishoy Estafanos Kamel (25) and Samuel Estafanos Kamel (23). Further, this martyrdom was "a badge of honor to Christianity." Beshir gave thanks, not just to God and Christ, but also to ISIS for not editing out the men' s declaration of belief in Christ (the men exclaimed Jesus Christ as their faith at the start of the beheading). Beshire claimed the families of the expatriate workers were "congratulating one another," and not in despair: "We are proud to have this number of people from our village who have become martyrs." Beshir went on in the radio broadcast to reiterate the toughened response of the Coptic community. He said: "My mother, an uneducated woman in her sixties, said she would ask [the killer of her sons] to enter her house and ask God to open his eyes because he was the reason her son entered the Kingdom of Heaven." Habib Lam' I, uncle to one of the martyrs named Samuel (note: Samuel had two boys and a girl) said: "We thank Christ so much for they are absent from the body and present with Christ... I sent congratulations and not condolences to the families of the martyrs... When we saw the beheading video we were filled with joy. They were like lions, none of them left their faith. We thank God... They are with Christ. We thank the Lord... They went to the eternal joy. We were tired when we did not know, but we were filled with joy when we found out they were heroic."

America must define our enemy as radical Islam and use all elements of national power to defeat the ideology at home, throughout the world, and on the direct battlefield.

As Lt. Gen. Flynn has forcefully made clear, America must define our enemy as radical Islam and use all elements of national power to defeat the ideology at home, throughout the world, and on the direct battlefield. That requires destruction of Daesh in a ruthless and persistent manner and purging Islamist ideology from the US and Europe. Additionally, a method we use to defeat the ideology of our enemies is in psychological warfare; convincing Daesh and others the strategy of terror will backfire as it did with the Coptics. It will not demoralize us, but will only strengthen our resolve. In 1940, at the darkest period of World War II for the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill told the British Empire: "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat." London faced the terror of civilian bombings and the Nazi juggernaut throughout Europe. The Nazis became convinced the United Kingdom would not give in to terror, and turned east to Russia. The allies were eventually able to defeat Germany from England. This is a time for the United States to face the stark reality of this enemy, but also time to show this enemy that terror will bring the same reaction as with the Coptic Christian community. It will backfire and we will prevail.
