Crown Prosecutors attempt to silence MPPs over Gulick Forest Products allegations

(QUEEN’S PARK) Randy Hillier, MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington, along with Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski, were served with notice of an intended lawsuit by the three Crown Prosecutors involved in the Gulick Forest Products case. The notice also names various media outlets, including the Ottawa Sun, which published stories on the case.

“This notice is an attempt to silence two elected officials, as well as our province’s free media,” said Hillier. “Needless to say, it has strengthened my resolve to find the truth of the matter in this case.” “The allegations made against the Crown Prosecutors in this case are very serious, and if an injustice has been done, I don’t intend to let it stand.” Hillier has written to the Attorney General, demanding clarification about whether the three Crown Prosecutors are acting on the Ministry’s behalf or on their own. “This government has been mired in scandal for months,” stated Hillier. “There are serious allegations a crime has been committed, and if government officials believe they can get away with hiding it by intimidating the media or myself, they are mistaken. We will get to the truth.”
