CTF Pleased with PC Commitment to Balanced Budgets

TORONTO, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation’s (CTF) Ontario director Candice Malcolm attended a Town Hall meeting with PC Leader Tim Hudak tonight in Brampton to discuss Ontario taxpayer’s priorities and concerns in this election, and to get details on how Mr. Hudak plans to follow through on his balanced budget promise.

“Ontario has become an economic basket case,” said Malcolm. “We’ve watched the government bribe special interest groups with taxpayer money to keep themselves in power, and drive the province deeper and deeper into debt.” Ontario’s debt increases by $396 every second. That is what a typical Ontario household spends in a month on groceries. Our debt grows by $23,782 every minute, or about the cost of a starter home in our province. “Tim Hudak has made a promise to balance Ontario’s books in two years. He assures us that if he does not balance the budget, he will resign,” said Malcolm. “We accepted his invitation to attend tonight’s town hall to hear him make that promise in person, and we plan on holding him accountable for that promise.” “Thanks to years of reckless spending, every man, woman, and child in Ontario owes $20,116 in provincial debt,” said Malcolm. “That is not the legacy we want to leave to our children and grandchildren in Ontario.” The CTF put forward its own balanced budget plan last year.
