De Blasio Snubs UN General Assembly President, Volkan BozkirNew York City’s failed leftwing Mayor Bill de Blasio has managed to pick a fight with the current president of the United Nations General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir. Bozkir requested an in-person meeting with the mayor of the UN’s host city to discuss the impact of the coronavirus on conditions in the city where UN personnel and diplomats live and work, as well as to discuss other topics of mutual interest. De Blasio’s office flatly turned down the request without offering any reason for the snub. “I was saddened to learn that the Mayor was unavailable to meet with me,” Bozkir said in a statement. “This lack of interaction concerns me as policies devised by the City of New York directly affect the work of the United Nations and by extension millions of lives across the globe.”
The mayor’s International Affairs Commissioner Penny Abeywardena responded with a defensive statement, praising the de Blasio administration’s record in dealing with the UN but not addressing specifically why de Blasio refused to meet with Bozkir personally as requested. “We are surprised and saddened by the statement released today by Volkan Bozkir, the newly-appointed president of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly,” Abeywardena said in her statement. It’s not as if de Blasio is doing anything of value while occupying the mayor’s seat in City Hall. He has been spotted taking long aimless strolls while the city is literally falling apart. Crime in New York City has spiked on his watch. Sanitary conditions have deteriorated. The homeless situation has worsened. The schools are in a state of utter confusion. Droves of New Yorkers are moving out of the city. You would think that de Blasio would not want to jeopardize an important source of revenue from lavishly spending UN staff and diplomats. But remember, this is the same guy who thinks that indoor dining is “a very optional activity” for the upper classes. The United Nations leaders and Bill de Blasio deserve each other. They are elitists who often do not practice what they preach. But it is amusing nevertheless to witness the dustup between the current president of the UN General Assembly and the de Blasio administration, brought on by dumb de Blasio’s own misplaced hubris.
