Just as the rest of the western world is bidding a fond adieu to the remains of the festive fowl, merry merchandisers meeting in Frankfurt, Germany, will be dictating what they fondly believe will be next season’s decorating trends. Christmasworld show features six trade floors filled with the latest in floral supplies, ribbons and packaging, seasonal decorations, party items, and yet more must-haves for the fashion-conscious host.
Each year, Christmasworld commissions style agency bora.herke to define the decorating trends for the coming year in a presentation held at the event, writes Canadian Florist trade periodical. The agency combs the show for products that fall into this category and creates four trend groupings.

Delightful Garden

A reflection of the 1960s, the colours that fall under this trend are young, feminine and poetic – fresh yellow, pale blue and light salmon. Designer Annette Palmisano from bora-herke described this mixture of textures and patterns as “perky combos that are cute and unusual.” Prints like checks and stripes, prints, animals and floral motifs create a lighthearted charm.

Gentle Horizon

Colours like saffron yellow, a cool, slate grey and rose pink define this grouping. The style features expressive textures along with “unusual accents that give this theme a pure twist,” says Palmisano. Use simple, everyday items to focus on flowers for relaxing effect.

Elemental Forest

The atmosphere of this theme is massive, violent and rough and is inspired by the forces of nature. Natural influences like rocks, mosses and erosion dictate the colours in this theme, which include forest green, navy blue, caramel brown and sandy beige. A strong masculine element is imposed here, which may attract or repel those encountering such displays.

Bountiful Scenery

Things that are lush, exuberant, generous, vivid and extravagant define this theme. The colours include a bright, warm orange, mustard yellow, deep turquoise blue and chocolate brown. Luxury items are combined with coarser, even recycled materials to create surprise effects.
