Fans of the Buck Rogers comics will recall that his favorite weapon was the Disintegrator – aim, fire and demolish. It’s beginning to look as if someone has aimed such a weapon at the White House.

The place isn’t, of course, falling apart, It’s still structurally sound thanks to Harry Truman who gutted the place and all but rebuilt it, but its inhabitants are fleeing like the legendary rodents fleeing a sinking ship. And for good reason. The blinders that allowed many of them to view Barack Obama as some kind of superman and pledge their undying fealty to their idol have fallen from their eyes. The departure of General Jones from his post as National Security advisor is the latest example. As a steel hard combat veteran who climbed his way up to be commandant of the Marine Corps, he could hardly have been comfortable in a White House dominated by liberals who tend to despise the military. Moreover, according to some reports his advice concerning national security matters was seldom sought and largely ignored. Even Obama’s attack dog chief of staff Rahm Emanuel has packed up his supply of dead fish and fled back to Chicago to seek to become the windy city’s Mayor – a job with far less clout than his former White House post. A recent report from someone identified as “Ulsterman” which while I cannot confirm as accurate sounds valid paints a picture of the President as detached, clueless, and resentful of his political foes and Fox News above all. “He absolutely obsesses over Fox News,” the source said. “For being so successful, Barack Obama is incredibly thin-skinned. He takes everything very personally.” That being the case he can be expected to be enraged if the coming Congressional elections turn out to be the utter disaster predicted for his party, leaving him with at least one House of Congress firmly in the hands of Republicans who somehow fail to recognize his exalted image of himself. Given his self image, what can only be expected is gridlock, which while largely viewed among the chattering class as unacceptable, will doom any chances that one whit of his liberal agenda will survive the next Congress, an outcome given its devotion to big government solutions to all problems is devoutly to be desired. If the Republicans in the next Congress remain true to their ideals and principles – always a big “if” with my fellow Republicans - nothing less than open warfare between the White House and the Hill is inevitable. That prospect evokes shrieks of horror among the liberal elite which deems failure of the Congress to surrender their principles and policies to the imperial presidency as nothing less that outright treason. After all Congress for the most part represents the American people who as every good liberal knows are a bunch of ignoramuses who must be led around by their noses. There remains of course the possibility that the President will take the easy way out and allow the GOP-controlled Congress to take precedence over his own desires. That, however would endanger his chances of keeping his liberal base in line with his re-election looming just ahead. They are, it appears, already restive over his failure to push their full socialist agenda. Any serious study of the disastrous effects of his policies and agenda should convince the hopefully GOP-controlled Congress that their can be no collegiality with either the Democratic minority nor the Obama White House. Job one of a Republican controlled House and perhaps the Senate will be to roll back programs such as Obamacare, already having a disastrous effect on the nation’s medical care system. In the wake of the coming elections Republicans need to gather together and hammer out a fully conservative agenda for the next two years. And contrary to their past record, stick to it until it is realized.
