Being the party of "diversity" and "inclusion" (a/k/a identity politics), the Democrats use those terms to try to appeal to certain groups of people rather than to individuals. This collective mentality is the reason why many in the Democrat Party are embracing the failed system of Socialism. Big government rather than individuals running the show.
This will come as no surprise to anyone, liberals (a/k/a Progressives) use public schools and colleges to grind their ideological axes. Nobody should say that public schools and colleges don't teach values--it's just that the values they teach are a disdain for America, a dislike of Capitalism, and an embrace of the Hollywood approach to morality. In other words, they are indoctrinating the students they teach with a liberal left philosophy. That's why the group called the Millennials, in a recent poll, said that almost 60% favored the Socialist economic system over the economic system of Capitalism. In other words, liberals, who claim to be diverse and inclusive, think that that is more important than being right and economically sensible.
Look at the makeup of most schools and colleges, they preach and foist upon their students a "diversity requirement", but there is no such requirement in their hiring practices. Public schools and college faculties are overrun by liberals. A recent study of the University of California at Berkeley had 9.9 Democrats for every Republican. That ratio is about the same for most schools and colleges. In the area of the social sciences and the humanities departments, there is a 16 to 1 ratio. So much for diversity in the faculties of these schools and colleges.
Now, you can see why the conservatives are banned or restricted from speaking at many schools, or if they are allowed to speak, they are harassed or shouted down on a regular basis. I've seen on T.V. conservative students attacked and verbally abused on many campuses around the country with almost little or no police protection to speak of (this hardly ever happens to liberal speakers on campuses). Not only are these conservative students physically attacked but their materials are torn up and their tables are over turned, conservative speakers like Ben Shapiro, David Horowitz, Dinesh D'Souza, Ann Coulter, Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens, of the organization Turning Point U.S.A., and the conservative group YAF (Young Americans for Freedom) etc., have all been banned or restricted from speaking on campus or of being harassed and shouted down by far-left students, and by groups like ANTIFA and BLACK LIVES MATTER. These products of "diversity" don't want to hear diverse opinions only their own opinions.
Now, as we approach the 2020 presidential election, we have candidates vying for the Democrat nomination for president, using racial and gender appeals to attempt to appeal to voters. Claiming that you should vote for them based on their race or gender, is the height of idiocy. This was the same strategy used by Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election campaign, which didn't work out too well for her as she lost the election.
Yes, the Republicans would like for the Democrats to continue their "diversity" appeals to the electorate, as the average voters (other than on the East and West coasts) in flyover country, which propelled Trump to prevail in the last election, will not be duped by this dubious charade of the Democrats claiming to be diverse and inclusive, knowing that it is just a "divisive" ploy to get votes. It ain't gonna happen !
