An irresponsible and power mad opposition

Do we really want ‘banana republic"status?

Just when Canadians thought they were through yet another federal election and had democratically elected the government of their choice an irresponsible and power mad opposition (a good description would be Junta) come up with a suprise Christmas present to oust the Conservatives and undemocratically seize power.

Unhappy with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty's Fiscal update which wisely contains no immediate stimulus package but focuses on spending cuts including cutting the $27-million annual taxpayer subsidy to political parties there is much talk of the opposition bringing the goverment down and forming an unprecedented coalition of Liberals and New Democrats and which might even include the Bloc and some separatists. This attempt to take power without an election is shameful enough but I find it even more distasteful that former Prime Minister Jean Chretien and NDP leader Ed Broadbent would have such contempt for democracy as to be involved in this backroom deal. This scheme to defeat the government ostensibly over concern for the economy is both dishonest and inept and and a guaranteed disaster for themselves and the country should the opposition pursue such madness. In a time of unprecedented economic crisis for our country and the world words are simply inadequate to describe the folly and selfishness of an out-of-touch opposition who clearly care little for the country or the responsible citizens who voted them in.
