Don't Abandon the Righteousness of Our Cause By Choosing Or Cheering Assassination

'As a bad follower of the Honorable Mr. Elijah Muhammad, whose model of lawful opposition to injustice is legendary, I don't join in revelry or 'flexing' (like Roland Martin and his timid cast who wouldn't 'bust a grape in a food fight') over the assassination of a police officer by an aggrieved father whose son was killed a day earlier by police.

Police hatred emanating from numerous Black commentators isn't in keeping with the disciplined struggle Mr. Muhammad urged.

I understand some community members feelings.

But if we are to build a better community or one day even a nation, it can't be through assassination.

If we cannot respect the laws of this country regarding murder, will those so undisciplined magically become disciplined in a better community or envisioned country?

No.

Citizenship is our boot camp. Failure to be good citizens in this nation means not being so, at least in most cases, within one of our own creation.

We can and must oppose evil.

Our opposition however, can't use the same tactics as evil we struggle against.

If tragedy causes temporary insanity, that's a different matter entirely.

If not, then doing to others what was done to beloved ancestors like Brother Minister Malcolm X and Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is no better.

Stay disciplined in your struggle because once you cast it aside, in this case by being an assassin, you've abandoned the righteousness of our cause—a fact even a bad follower like me knows all too well.

Let's trying and keep our unsteady feet on the straight path as much as possible regarding how we use force.

Assassination often sets the stage for more mayhem.
