I'm sticking with my Pick Six

Don't be a soundbite supporter

As this presidential race continues to unfold, some of us learn more and more about the candidates' ideas for solving problems and their leadership potential. In the process, some people flip-flop their opinions of the candidates based upon the latest take-down soundbites served up by some media sources. I'm still sticking with my Pick Six that I named nearly two months ago (Trump, Fiorina, Carson, Cruz, Rubio and Huckabee), even though people continue to pressure me to tell them my single preference. I remind them that a lot can happen in a presidential race, rightly or wrongly, that could ultimately determine the Republican Party's nominee.

Granted, I don't agree with everything said by each of my picks or the way they might say it, nor am I enthusiastic about every aspect of every proposal they make. But none of them have said or proposed anything that's a deal breaker to cause me to kick 'em of the list. The biggest challenge, however, is turning out to be setting the record straight about misinformation, disinformation, distorted interpretations and flat-out lies about what happened in the candidates’ past, or what they said and didn't say. There is never a shortage of stuff to write about or talk about on the radio. So while my weekend consisted of taking two of my grandkids to the movies, watching a lot of football, going to church, and giving a keynote speech at the 25th anniversary banquet for Haven House, Inc. (an organization which helps victims of domestic violence), I was asked dozens of times who my pick is for the Republican nomination. My answer was always the same. I have six favorites I could enthusiastically support for president, and right now, they are all on the big stage for the next presidential debate. But as I said, a lot could change with a soundbite. Message! Don't be a soundbite supporter. We need a problem solving leader!
