I ran across this
U.S. War Department Newsreel made in Germany sometime after 1941. It is both a recruiting tool and a propaganda film that glorifies and extols Nazi Virtue and Aryan Society. The primary target: Youth 7-17 years old. From 1934 until 1945, the Hitler Youth [Hitler Jugend] program brainwashed children and grew fanatics. A popular goal of a committed Hitler Youth was to be an elite Wehrmacht or Luftwaffe Officer, perhaps even a member of the Waffen SS. Even ten years exposure to such a constant barrage of psychological conditioning would take its toll on even the toughest, most independent spirit. This "acquired" Nazi Propaganda film talks about a summer work program for Hitler Youth and ends with a celebration of "heroes." It seeks to unify all German speaking Youth and other Aryan peoples. German proficiency is not needed to understand this. Watching this film before reading my narrative, will add emphasis to my words. Behold
A pastoral setting: a warm Summer day, the uncomplicated life in the countryside, a collective effort. The narrator starts off with this theme: "The warm summer weather makes work fun." This is not altogether different than the different, malevolent theme at Auschwitz: "Arbeit Macht Frei," translated: "Work shall set you free." Of course the work here in both cases is the work for the Collective State, for the Fatherland and for "der Fuhrer." As the narrator says,"The Harvest must be brought in. When everyone helps, it gets done." Note that the girls working attire is feminine but suitable for work, and that the boys clothing is paramilitary.
This blending of the visual with a strong rhetoric is not incidental, it is deliberate conditioning. It panders to the older generations work ethic and allegiance to a greater Germany. They were better than that to which the Allied Forces had reduced and humiliated them with the "War Reparations" that later caused the Great Hyperinflation. This older generation had not, in their minds, lost the war on the battlefields of World War I. Rather, they they had been "stabbed in the back," betrayed by the Industrialists, the Bankers, and the Jews. These scenes of Hitler Youths with a rejuvenated sense of purpose and pride caused pride even in those who were skeptical of National Socialism and Adolf Hitler.
The second segment of this film shifts to benefits for children of a Hitler Youth Camp on the Baltic Sea [Ostsee]. Here the children were taught hands-on history with a Nazified twist: familiarization with models of military hardware, German history with an Aryan flavor, lessons in military geography, and basic military training and tactics. Of course all of this hard work makes for a good appetite. These youth are eating more and better than they did at home. Watch the way these children devour the food, there are no table scraps. Afterward, young "Sister Erica" weighs the boys, and acts as nurse for a boy with a wounded hand. Women's role was to be the strength behind the strength, nurturing [and restoring as necessary] the Aryan masculinity to fullness, and to deliver Aryan babies for the Reich. The next scene depicts a demonstration of physical fitness maintenance. See how the brave boys make a determined effort at a human pyramid. The imagery is not lost on the average German viewer: "See what our boys can do now? Imagine what they will be able to accomplish as full grown Aryan German Soldiers!" This segment ends with a mad dash to swim in the cold Baltic See. Even in Summer swimming in the Baltic is akin to to swimming in the North Atlantic. See how tough these boys are? This is a message: "World take note of us. We are the Future."
The last segment of this film is the masterful stroke. Here is the payoff of the Hitler Youth program of the 1930s. The Lubeck Train Station, 1941: Welcoming home heroic Commando [Shock] Troops on leave, fresh from their victories on the Russian Front against Stalin's Soviet Union. This is a great celebration of the bravery of the German Soldier, Heroes of the Reich, wounded and decorated, many display the Iron Cross for bravery. [Hitler too, won the Iron Cross for his bravery during WWI; this imagery is not to be dismissed.] These soldiers are to be the future Leadership of the Thousand Year Reich created by Hitler. "Die Lubecke Jugend ist begeistert," translated: "The youth are enchanted."
["Bewitched" is another translation of the German word "begeistert".] Through the streets they march, and then on to the nearby Baltic Resort of Travemunde to a special performance honoring them and showcasing the maidens of the German Reich. Next the heroes travel to a Youth Training Facilty to share their experiences with future soldiers of the Reich. The final scene is a jubilant and spirited tug of war between the grizzled combat veterans and the Hitler Youth. Hugs and smiles for everyone at the end.
Again and again, mankind is subjected to these old, new ideas and values: Hope and Change, Progress, Unification, Pride, a Better Life. Inherently, there is nothing wrong with these ideas and values. Where we go wrong is in how we develop and apply these ideas and values. Basically there is a great divide, two basic ideas. One side offers the State as a solution for Mankind:
- Collectivization
- Submission of the Individual to the State
- Highest Service is service to the State
- Mythology of Ideology as a Crystal Ball
- Failure is the fault of egoism not collectivism
- Religion is useful only as it supports the State
- A Tower of Babel world view
- The State the embodiment of vision of One Leader [Fuhrerprinzip]
The Third Reich was to be a Thousand Year Reich. Hitler's Youth Program was an integral part of raising up good National Socialists. The Aryan Race would be accomplished by selective breeding and pairing of men and women convenient and useful to the Reich [State]. Training began at a young age and continued through out life. Absolute devotion to the State, Leader, and Ideology were the conditions for success. If Nazism was not successful in one area, it was because of the Failure of Ego, not the Failure of Ideology. Once the German People had conquered the world then and only then could true progress be made. This required along the way the elimination of private business, confiscation of property, and the consolidation of power through the spread of collectivist, National Socialist Revolution, and the elimination of enemies. Jews, the oldest enemy, had to be wiped out. Christianity, likewise had to be eliminated. The first group was cultural as well as religious: clearly deadly enemies to the state. The second group had never fully acculturated Germany, Nazism became the State Religion to replace Christianity. But the German Youth was key to the whole plan. A true Aryan Race could be accomplished by the end of Three Generations.
A Second View on Mankind is more benign but not softer. It offers the Individual as Sovereign. The Individual is not the problem, but the Solution:
- Individualism
- The State is the servant of the Sovereign People.
- Highest Service is to God and Fellow Man
- Morality, Ethics, and Religious values trump Ideology
- Failure provides the Opportunity for New Ideas and Success
- Religion provides the basis for Personal Responsibility
- A State Constitution is the reflection of the Sovereign People's Voice.
- The People are embodied with a principle of Exceptionalism.
This Second View is a tough row to hoe. It takes a People with fierce determination and individualism, ones who believes in Free Will. But it also believes that this Free Will comes from a Creator. Someone greater than themselves is the guiding light in their lives. Hard work, a moral and ethical Religious Foundation, and the belief in the Golden Rule sets this people apart. Such a people are often knocked down. But they get back up, dust themselves off, and then help their neighbor to get up too. Such a people accepts personal responsibility for themselves and their actions. Failure is a Life Lesson which helps us to look for a better way to achieve a goal. Reliance on the State for Personal Success is anathema to such free people. We the People see America Country as special, exceptional, a gift from God.
"Second View People" escaped from Britain, Europe and countries from around the World to come to America. We came here to be free. Free in thought, free in worship, free in speech, free in movement, free in ownership, free to build, free to defend, free succeed, free to fail and free to start over. We are willing to accept personal responsibility. We do not need the State to tell us how to live.
History shows no successful "free" Collectivist State. No matter how noble, no matter how revolutionary, such a state invariably descends into a Master-Slave relationship where the State becomes Master and the Individual becomes Slave. Freedom in the United States is becoming more illusory daily. Collectivist Brainwashing and Multiculturalism invading K through 12 Education, thoroughly Marxist-based Economics, Philosophy, History classes and Progressive lectures are choking the air in our Universities. Our great American Freedom is in danger of becoming a clichéd Collectivist Vision of wealth redistribution and mental serfdom. Oh, don't worry. You'll still get your daily bread and circus, Soma for your frazzled brain, and palpable media accounts of the various ongoing wars and why we must continue to defend them while ignoring our own borders. After all, a major premise of Collectivism is no borders... is it not?
So, watch this film again and re-read my commentary, if you will. Then visit the internet and see what Obama and his minions are doing to Labor, to Capital, to Free Speech and to Education. Watch willing teachers teach little kids to sing worshipful songs about our "Great Leader Obama." Watch how voices who sound Constitutional Themes of our Founders are belittled and drowned out as being exclusive bigots by the forces of Progressivism. Watch TV and see how brutal the Labor Left is in their televised beat-downs of Tea Party members and duly elected Legislatures. Watch the Media blame the Tea Party. Don't tell me what happened in Germany in the 1930s and 1940s can't happen here. I was stationed in Berlin in the 1980s. My job was to observe and report. Even then, in the free-for-all 1980s, I saw a similar system in operation of oppression in East Berlin and East Germany. We are in the beginning stages.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. What am I to think when my President does not support, even rhetorically, a true Freedom Movement in Iran in 2009, but whose Director of National Intelligence tells me that the anti-Semitic, Christian-hating, America-hating Muslim Brotherhood is a secular movement? The Jews say, "Never again!" with reference to the Holocaust. Americans say, "Never forget!" with reference to 9-11. Have many of the Jews forgotten? Have many Americans stopped caring?
Forget at your own peril. The "new, improved" version of the old game is happening again. It is happening again right before your eyes.
