European Censorship Of Conservative Voices Best Explains Blaspheme At Paris Opening Ceremonies

The 2024 Paris Olympic Opening Ceremony has exposed a wide gulf between the values of progressives in the West, particularly Europe, and conservatives throughout the world. Most are now aware of the mockery of the Last Supper by primarily drag queens at the Paris Olympic Opening. Many have read the denunciations by Christians from throughout the world, particularly outside the West.

The Utah Governor, for example, wrote: “I’m seeing video of a blatant mockery of a sacred event that my faith cherishes (the Last Supper of Christ). I can’t wait for the opening ceremonies in 2034 (like 2002) to showcase Utah values and our commitment to building family and community."

Despite the worldwide condemnations, Jill Biden wrote the same sentiments as many on the left “So, last night, it was just spectacular…. Every step of the way, I was thinking to myself, oh my god, oh my god. How are we going to top this?" 

 Paris organizers have claimed their polls showed “86% of the French considered Friday’s ceremonies… a success.”  The same tech censorship we face in America has now smothered much of Europe and explains what’s happening.

First, it’s fair to recognize the prevailing secularism throughout Europe, particularly France. France is near the bottom in Europe in terms of weekly church attendance at only 8%. The European Average is 14%. In comparison, the lowest state in the US for church attendance is New Hampshire at 12%, while the US average is around twice that of Europe.

Regardless of the hyper-secularism, it still doesn’t explain why the Paris organizers felt comfortable going after Christianity in such a blatant, overt manner. Nor does hyper-secularism explain why progressives, who pride themselves on “inclusivity” would behave so exclusively to a religious group. Even French President Emmanuel Macron went out of his way to publicly praise the opening ceremonies and condemn criticism of it, despite the black eye France suffered internationally. 

What best explains the shocking lack of self-awareness among the organizers and leaders like Macron is ubiquitous European tech censorship of conservatives and censorship of criticism of events like drag queens mocking the Last Supper. In purchasing Twitter, Elon Musk made it his mission to expose tech censorship. Musk quickly published all the email traffic between US government agencies and Twitter proving government officials, including from the FBI, tried to squelch conservative speech. 

We all saw the results with the ubiquitous censorship of the Hunter Biden Laptop story before the 2020 election. Same with origin of COVID and views dissenting from Dr. Fauci. Thankfully, Musk’s exposure generated lawsuits and put a brake on censorship. Musk has recently exposed the European Commission’s attempts to censor conservative viewpoints through private tech companies like X (formerly Twitter). According to Musk “The European Commission offered X an illegal secret deal: if we quietly censored speech without telling anyone, they would not fine us. The other platforms accepted that deal. X did not.”

As Musk has proved his allegations previously, we can take him at his word about the European Commission. That includes his claim that the European Commission caused “the other platforms” to censor users without their knowledge. In my own travels through Europe, I have noticed the absence of the conservative viewpoint on tech platforms and cable. Many European nations have passed (or plan to pass) laws which would put conservatives in prison for criticizing the Paris Olympic Opening. 

Scotland, for example, passed a felony hate speech law which criminalized any criticism of a plethora of sexual identity groups if the words could incite “hatred”.

European progressive leaders have so monopolized speech and so silenced conservative (including Christian) voices, that they can get away with virtually any outrage like mocking Jesus. That’s particularly the case if those mocking Jesus are of a “protected” identity group like drag queens. “Inclusion” does not encompass the 8% of French still going to Church.

May we in America remain one nation under God and use those God given rights to His honor

What’s different with the Paris Opening Ceremonies is something not considered by the progressive organizers. The whole world was watching the blaspheme and could and would speak out in condemnation. The organizers were forced to apologize and dissemble. Many are drawing comparisons with the beer brand Bud Light. Did France “Bud Light” itself to the world due to censorship of conservatives? Did that censorship kill any sense of self-awareness of how the “uncensored” world would react?

The left has learned in Europe that the best way to gain the ideological monopoly is by censorship and force and not persuasion. Conservatives must refuse to be silenced and must continue to openly criticize the left when warranted. Like with the Last Supper fiasco. Conservative speech must be loud about the view, expressed in our Declaration of Independence, that American rights come from God. That includes the fundamental unalienable right to criticize blaspheme against the source of our rights. May we in America remain one nation under God and use those God given rights to His honor.
