Eastern Canada needs western Canadian oil more than it needs western Canadian gas and a new study reinforces the wisdom of converting TransCanada’s cross-country mainline — which signed a crucial agreement this week — in North America’s evolving energy market. The Canadian Energy Research Institute study focuses on exports of LNG to offset the surge in U.S. natural gas production as the Marcellus shale increasingly dominates the gas supply to nearby Ontario and Quebec at the expense of the long-established supply route from Western Canada. -- More...
