Prorogation of the Provincial Legislature, McGuinty resigns

Exit Stage Left

(QUEEN’S PARK) – MPP Randy Hillier (Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington) expressed his concern over the prorogation of the Provincial Legislature as McGuinty exits stage left.

“In the face of overwhelming evidence of contempt, and finding himself buried under scandal after scandal of his own making, that the Premier would make a sudden and hasty exit from the public stage should not come as too much of a surprise, I suppose,” remarked Hillier. “What I find disappointing is that he would lock the door on his way out, stopping all work at the Legislature and preventing the Legislature from properly addressing the mess that he and his administration has created.” “The entire Liberal administration is at fault for the billions of dollars we have seen wasted on eHealth, ORNGE, and most recently the seat-saving powerplant debacle; McGuinty’s resignation does nothing to absolve the rest of the Liberal Party of accountability and responsibility.” The Liberal Party will elect a new leader in the coming months, who will step in to the Premier’s job probably sometime next year. “The director may have left the show, but the cast remains, and under a new director I am confident we’ll be watching the same reruns of scandal and contempt,” said Hillier. “What Ontario really needs is a complete rewrite of the script.”
