B'nai Brith Canada has called on Facebook to investigate users who utilize the social networking site to disseminate hate and call for violence. This call comes after Facebook finally removed pages calling for violence against the Jewish State, only to have related pages reappear on the social networking site within hours.
"B’nai Brith Canada long ago sounded the alarm on the dangers of hate on the internet. Compliance with Facebook’s Terms of Use must be enforced vigourously to stop the spread of inflammatory messaging on cyberspace”, said Frank Dimant, CEO of B'nai Brith Canada. “Facebook must accept it has a responsibility to exclude users who repeatedly abuse these Terms by posting pages with messages that incite hate and violence.”
“In addition to instituting measures to exclude repeat offenders, Facebook must be much more responsive in acting on complaints about such groups, in order to stop the site being abused for even a short period of time. Facebook took far too long to move on the thousands of complaints it received regarding these pages, and it must now be much more proactive.”
