Father of soldier killed searching for Bergdahl: 'Why did my son die?'

Yesterday, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs held a hearing on the Bowe Bergdahl detainee swap. Among those who appeared before the panel was Andy Andrews. He's the father of 2nd Lt. Darryn Andrews - one of the men who lost his life searching for Bergdahl after he deserted his post.
...Although that's not what they were told by our government. From CNN:
The military told Andrews' parents their son was killed searching for a high-ranking Taliban commander. Andy Andrews insists "Bergdahl was never mentioned." But since the POW's release, he said, six soldiers have approached the family with the revelation their son was actually searching for Bergdahl when he died.

To this day, Defense Secreatry Chuck Hagel still maintains that he's "unaware" of anyone dying in the search - despite a wide array of claims to the contrary. Here's a transcript and video of Mr. Andrews' gut wrenching House Commitee testimony, both via Twitchy.
Andrews: “My son was a soldier’s soldier. And it didn’t matter what the assignment was, he was gonna do it … To me, this situation with us not being told the whole truth, and then trading a private for five high-ranking Taliban — exactly why did my son die? Tell me one more time. Because I don’t know what we’ve accomplished.” Rep. Randy Weber: “If you could say that to the president, is that what you would say to him?” Andrews: “Yes.” Weber: “And now the hard question, so forgive me: If you could get your son back by trading five more of those senior Taliban …” Andrews: “If my son had been a deserter, then no. Absolutely not. But my son was a man of honor, and I would do almost anything.”
This is absolutely heartbreaking, but Mr. Andrews also poses a legitimate question - not just about the Bergdahl exchange, but about the President's entire foreign policy. Obama brags ad nausea about "ending two wars" but it's becoming clear that his only real legacy will be the ruin of everything we were trying to accomplish over the last ten years. Ending a war doesn't mean much if, in the process, we sacrifice everything we've achieved. If the President ever bothered to answer the difficult questions, maybe someone could get him to do a little soul searching and respond to Mr. Andrews. Sadly, he's never proven himself to be that kind of "leader." Our prayers go out to Mr. and Mrs. Andrews, as well as their heroic son.
