Final Trump impeachment vote teed up for next week after GOP blocks Dem effort for new witnesses


R epublicans in the Senate secured enough votes Friday evening to reject Democratic efforts to extend the Trump impeachment trial and call new witnesses, paving the way for the widely expected acquittal of President Trump next week on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in a statement late Friday he expects to "conclude the trial in the coming days" as senators revealed plans to continue the trial on Monday then have a final up-and-down vote on Wednesday.
