After finding his vehicle, authorities had a very difficult time finding Giddens because he was covered up to his neck in mud.
Giddens had been without food and water and had experienced freezing temperatures for multiple days.
According to local reports, it took about three hours to finally free him from the mud.
"[Rescuers] have to take extra precautions to make sure they don’t get stuck in said material," said Putman County Sheriff’s Office Major D. Ussery.
"So yes, there were many apparatuses that were used to extract him from that, as you’ll be able to see through the pictures, which is something I have not seen in my 23-year career."
Giddens was airlifted to a trauma center where he was listed in critical condition. He is expected to recover.
Remarkable.
