Hundreds of employees at the county’s largest school districts will get pink slips over the next 10 days, marking one of the biggest rounds of layoff notifications that local schools have ever seen, according to the county Office of Education.
What makes the current situation so bleak, said Christin Newlon of the Office of Education, is that, unlike in years past, officials expect that most of those being laid off won’t be hired back next fall.
