I can’t wait to see who will be taking his place, but in the meantime it is worth looking back at some of the richly absurd columns that Rich has written over the years. In expressing his exuberant love affair with President Obama, for example, Frank Rich had this to say right after Obama was elected in 2008:
Dawn also brought the realization that we were at last emerging from an abusive relationship with our country’s 21st-century leaders. The festive scenes of liberation that Dick Cheney had once imagined for Iraq were finally taking place — in cities all over America.

Obama’s speech struck me as the sincere product of serious deliberations, an earnest attempt to apply his formidable intelligence to one of the most daunting Rubik’s Cubes of foreign policy America has ever known.. We want to believe that Obama’s marvelous powers of reason can check a ruthless enemy and reverse decades of tragic history in one of the world’s most treacherous backwaters.
