Free Security On Nolas Canal St.

My free security activism found itself on New Orleans world famous Canal St., within a year of arrival.

Its Black street vendors are the only visible sign of enterprise from this city's majority population in the Central Business District (CBD). Surrounded by buildings and store fronts owned by a United Nations of foreign interests, these American entrepreneurs sell African themed crafts, body oil and other hand made items. They are also subjected to shop lifting, witness nearby crime and serve as unpaid mediators for sidewalk battles- including shootings. They're also pro bono counselors to endless lost souls drawn to the downtown area. As such, they need someone to watch their backs. In that capacity, I would secure them during peak crowd hours and -- in the owners absence -- vend in their stead. I've also done overnight watches in excess of 12 hours so the vendor could get well earned rest. Securing their tables also provided the opportunity to break up fights, catch someone who exposed himself to school girls, and feed numerous homeless people. It's a shame how the Downtown Development District (DDD) harasses these vendors in an effort to eventually remove them from Canal St. Allow me a partisan indulgence to note this harassment is done with the blessing of the liberal mayor elected twice by New Orleans Black majority. One need not visit the Heritage Foundation nor a libertarian site to become aware of progressive hostility toward Black businesses--just ask vendors on Canal St. Providing free security there quickly revealed the pain and prejudice behind New Orleans festive facade. -NADRA ENZI AKA CAP BLACK is an anti crime activist offering free security to worthy people and causes.
