But it’s not just the Liberals who have this problem. Those politicians, of all stripes, who depend on an urban power base all too often ignore or don’t understand the needs of rural Canadians. This frequently results in governments enacting laws which infringe on the rights of farmers. The long-gun registry fiasco is just one example. Even more serious abuses occur when governments deny farmers their property rights through ill-thought out land-use regulations.
