MPP Hillier endorses call for Operational/Financial review of Lanark Community Living

Government Funded Agency Hides From Accountability



(Perth) – MPP Randy Hillier today expressed his significant frustration with the Director of Lanark Community Living, Rick Tutt, whose employees have been on strike since July 4th.

“My office has encountered silence when attempting to deal with the agency shortly after the strike began,” remarked the MPP for Lanark, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington. “When we finally got a response, it was only to announce that Mr Tutt is not prepared to meet with me.” Equally difficult is accessing information about the Agency, which provides services to some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Lanark Community Living has not published a report to their website since 2006. “I have grave concerns over the value derived from such arm’s-length government agencies when they operate under a cloak of darkness and are unresponsive to elected officials,” remarked Mr. Hillier. CUPE is calling upon the Minister of Community and Social Services and the Premier to do an operational review of the agency. Mr. Hillier endorses the call for a review. “I would like any investigation to include a financial review”, said Hillier. “There needs to be accountability and oversight for agencies receiving public money for the delivery of services. Randy Hillier, MPP Lanark Frontenac Lennox, is a co-founder of the Lanark Landowners Association, which was brought to life to address government imposition on the rights of private property owners, and to address the regressive regulatory impositions that government was bringing down upon farmers and business owners in rural Ontario.

In 2006, Randy resigned as President of the OLA in order to run as a candidate for the Progressive Conservatives.  Randy was elected in the 2007 provincial election.

Randy a long-time resident of Lanark County, an electrician by trade and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), continues to co-publish and edit rural Ontario’s successful magazine “The Landowner.”
