In the early afternoon the town of Goderich was like any other tourist town with our Sunday afternoon flea market on the square. There was little indication of what the next few hours would hold changing the lives of many and causing one life to end. The tornado of August 21st has left an indelible mark on all who live in this town. Some were affected very little and some lost all they had.
Time has moved on for many of us in our little town of Goderich but the struggle continues for many home owners and business people who are dealing with the processes of recovering their lives and businesses and I wish I had some instant answers to take all this pain away but unfortunately I don’t. For many it is very difficult when there is so much to be done. Their lives hang in the balance of policy, politics, insurance companies and the availability of contractors. Many are unable to move on as things have reached a standstill. Many are experiencing a lot of pain and anguish for this life that they did not create. My heart goes out to them and to bless them in their struggle. We are diligently working hard toward rebuilding our town and a vital part of this process is getting mature trees back on the private properties in our town. As part of this process we (a local group of volunteers) are asking people to help us with this project by donating to this worthy cause. It's part of the essence... of our community along with the absolutely brilliant strength and resolve of our citizens and the community at large.

Donations can be made by cheque to: “Goderich Edge Fund” and on the memo line on the bottom you just have to put “Environment: Goderich Trees” Cheques can be mailed to; Town of Goderich, 57 West St. Goderich Ontario N7A 2K5 Or you can donate online by going to http://tiny.cc/edgefundessence Your assistance in this project is greatly appreciated as we rebuild the town long known as the "Prettiest Town in Canada”.
