Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus) says gay marriages are not only permissible but she believes Jesus loves all and does not discriminate between gay people. Miley was quizzed by gay blogger Perez Hilton, who attacked Miss California Carrie Prejean for her anti-gay marriage stance at the Miss USA pageant over the weekend.
OK! Now that Miley is speaking for Jesus Christ let’s all assume that is what Christians should believe. After all, when a celebrity barely old enough to drive a car makes dogmatic statements about Christianity, we should all throw out the New Testament and let her rewrite God’s laws.
What Miley believes about Jesus is partly true. But let’s look at the statement and its premise.
A: Jesus loves all. TRUE
B: Jesus does not discriminate against gay people. TRUE
C: Therefore Jesus believes gay people should be allowed to marry. FALSE
This is a classic case of using two premises to reach an illogical conclusion. The real question is this: Did Jesus ever preach acceptance of sinful behavior? The answer is NO. Did Jesus change God’s word to include homosexuality as acceptable? NO. If Jesus didn’t change God’s laws and God’s laws forbade homosexual unions, then Jesus obviously doesn’t believe gays should be allowed to marry.
American culture is an oxymoron
Actually, Miley’s reasoning is so pedantic that it’s laughable to any Christian apologist. But the real danger is that her peers, millions of adoring bubble gum chewing, cell phone texting, and impressionable fans will take her deduction as the gospel truth!
We live in a world run by celebrities! Take Barack Obama (please!). The Beefcake Prez. The Messiah! The One. The American media for the most part is guilty of making idols. Forget for a moment the TV show which eliminates singers to find its winner. Journalistic ethics be damned-- let’s cover our Commander in Chief as one covers a Hollywood actor. No matter what celebrities do that is contrary to common sense, logic, ethical behavior or protocol, the liberal media elevates, excuses, condones, and champions these idiots. The coverage of Obama is no different.
American culture is an oxymoron. We give credence to lies and ignore the truth. And God forbid that the truth escapes into the public arena because we’ll make sure we capture it, contain it, discredit it, and eventually bury it.
If my 9-5 job was to chronicle all the lame brain, un-American, un-Constitutional, illogical, unethical, immoral, illegal and dangerous ideas that are communicated to us on a daily basis, I’d be working overtime seven days a week. Thank God for CFP and its many contributors who are working to keep the flame of liberty burning brightly, the foundation of common sense solid, the scales of justice balanced, and truth absolute.
