Harry Reid: 'What difference does it make' when I was notified about Bergdahl?

If you've been paying attention to the fallout surrounding the illegal Bergdahl prisoner swap, you'll know that Harry Reid claims to be the single, solitary, member of Congress who knew it was going to happen. What you may not know is that he and the White House are actually arguing about when, precisely, he was told.
Reid claims he was informed of the exchange on Friday. This would mean he knew about it one day in advance and, as I said, he would have been the only Senator with that information. It would still be illegal, of course, since the law - which President Obama signed - requires the White House to give Congress 30 days’ notice, with details, of any Gitmo prisoner swap. My hunch has always been that no one informed Reid. He's most likely flat-out lying. That's just part of being a good little lapdog and trying to provide the President with a sliver of cover. Unfortunately, the White House has decided to torpedo Reid's claim. From ABCNews:

A COMMUNICATIONS BREAKDOWN BETWEEN PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HARRY REID? Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said yesterday that the White House told him about the Bergdahl deal on Friday — before it actually happened. That would be notable because it appears nobody else in Congress was told about the deal until after the fact on Saturday, ABC’s JONATHAN KARL notes. That prompted a senior administration official to urgently tell reporters traveling with the President that Senator Reid was mistaken and that he had been told on Saturday just like everybody else. So, Senator Reid simply got his days mixed up, right? Maybe not. Shortly after the senior administration official sought to correct Senator Reid, Senator Reid’s spokesman sought to correct the senior administration official. “This is mildly awkward,” tweeted Reid spokesman Adam Jentelson, “but someone at the WH must be confused…” In a second tweet, Jentelson added: “We were alerted earlier in the week that a significant notification was imminent & learned on Fri that Bergdahl op was going fwd.” Asked about that, the senior administration official had a new response: “No comment.”
Oops. Yesterday, during a press conference, Reid was asked again. Just when was he notified? His answer echoed Hillary Clinton's now infamous line about Benghazi. "What difference does it make?" Harry - sort of - has a point, though it's probably not the point he's trying to make. Whether Reid was informed Friday, or found out about it from watching the news on Saturday "just like everybody else," is pretty much irrelevant. Either way, President Obama broke the law and Congress was kept in the dark until it could no longer protest the deal. So, in that sense, Reid is right. However, and you can be absolutely sure that a crooked sycophant like Reid doesn't care, it matters who is telling the truth. If, as Reid claims, he was informed Friday, the American people would like to know why the White House is claiming he wasn't. On the other hand, if Reid lied through his teeth to provide the administration with a meager scrap of protection, we should know that too.
