A few more weeks? A couple of years? How about those predictions from the now defunct Mayans about the year 2012? We’re all gonna die! OK, now let’s all take a deep breath and settle down. The world has survived some very destructive events throughout recorded history: The Dark Ages; the bubonic plague; monumental battles with influenza, polio, and other rampant infectious disease; several ‘world wars’; Adolf Hitler; Mussolini; the Japanese invasion of America; and the list goes on. But the frightening headlines are only a smokescreen. They only point to the symptom and not to the problem. The world is in such bondage to evil that conspires to steal, kill and destroy as much of humanity as it can. Evil is real. Evil is thriving. When you confront most people with the idea that evil truly exists they believe it-- but will never agree that they are part of the problem. I know we live in a fallen world. A world that is ruled by evil with a capital E. Noting man can do will change the course of human history. No religion, no charitable organization, no human rights campaign, no action by the United Nations, no brotherhood or sisterhood formed for the purpose of doing good things, no laws, no edicts, no regulations, no political leader, no form of government--nothing man made will be a match for the evil that exists in the world. There is but ONE WAY. And only one way. It is through the finished work of Jesus Christ. There is no other name by which we can be saved. I have spoken with agnostics, atheists, Buddhists, Mormons, witches and warlocks, and those who hang their hopes on Philosophy. (Philosophy by definition is a blind man sitting in a darkened room trying to find a black cat that isn’t there) There is but one hope and one truth and that is why when I read the headlines, or speak with non-believers, I speak of what I know is true and I have done what is required of me. I can turn it over to God and sleep peacefully, knowing that He’s in control and my future is secure in Him. Headlines? Bring ‘em on!
