If you believe the press releases, New York is Hillary Clinton's "adopted" home state. In Washington-speak that means "the state where you moved to advance your career." It's also the place where Mrs. Clinton served as Senator from 2001-2009. On top of that, it's one of the left's most reliably liberal bastions. ...And yet Hillary's Empire State favorability numbers are in freefall.
Maybe it's because her senatorial career was so uninspiring. Perhaps it's because she was such a staunch, vocal, supporter of the Iraq war. It could be that the fine people of New York can simply smell a lifelong B.S. artist when they see one.
Whatever the reason, Hillary's numbers are collapsing in the one of the places where they should be the easiest to prop up.
As MSNBC reports, the "inevitable" nominee has endured a 12 point tumble in just the last couple of months. ...And it shows no signs of stopping.
If you listened to that clip carefully, you heard the real crux of Mrs. Clinton's dilemma. It isn't that she's been cagey, and it's not that that she's been mired in scandal; those are certainly contributing factors, but the real issue is that no one can envision a way for her to reverse the trend.
As I've written before, every time Hillary Clinton opens her mouth, her situation gets worse. Voters have - for years - heard the pitch and they've rejected it. She has nothing new to offer, and the old tricks are just making things worse.
If she can't find some new angle to help her turn things around (and it’s extremely difficult to see how she can), she's done.
