Over a billion dollars had been wasted

Hillier Calls for Public Inquiry on eHealth Scandal

(Perth) – Randy Hillier, MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington is demanding that the McGuinty liberals have a public inquiry to begin investigating the eHealth scandal. A report by the Auditor General, released last week, showed that over a billion dollars had been wasted on the agency with the province being no closer to an electronic health record system.

“The auditor general’s report showed grave deficiencies in this board. I believe the rot goes far deeper, but there is only one way we’ll get to the bottom of this scandal,” said Hillier. “The public deserves to know how their money was wasted. Blocking the inquiry to protect Mr. McGuinty’s liberal friends will only hurt the province.” Given the potentially criminal behaviour hinted at in the Auditor General’s report as well as the instances of overt obstruction of the Auditor General’s probe, Hillier has concluded that only an independent, impartial public inquiry wilth a full mandate to subpoena testimony and documents will provide the answers the people of Ontario deserve to see. “You don’t send a police officer to audit someone’s taxes, and you don’t send an auditor to investigate a crime,” stated Hillier. “I believe the auditor general’s report only skims the surface of what dirty deeds were done. We need an independent investigator who can get to the bottom of this scandal and expose it for all to see.” “The sponsorship scandal involved $300 million dollars. This is $1 billion,” noted Hillier. “Mr. McGuinty, where has this money gone? Stop blocking this investigation.”
