Last night during his address to the nation from the Oval Office, Barack Obama urged the Senate to pass what has become known as the Cap & Trade bill now awaiting action in the upper body.

As many studious observers such the Heritage Foundation have noted the passage of this misbegotten piece of legislation would be a disaster for the economy, cost untold millions of dollars and drive millions of American jobs abroad. Officially known as The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009- and also as the Waxman-Markey Bill after its authors, Representatives Henry Waxman of California and Edward J. Markey of Massachusetts it was passed by the House of Representatives and now awaits action in the Senate. As I have already written, The Heritage Foundation has warned that the bill would do nothing to improve clean-up or prevent future spills and would distract from the very efforts to clean up and stop the oil from gushing up from the seabed that must be the top priority now. Moreover Heritage warns that this anti-global warming legislation would raise energy costs for all Americans and drive much needed jobs abroad. It would increase energy costs and result in a slower economy, and lost jobs at a time when the top priority for Americans is economic growth. The President is putting tremendous pressure on Democrats in the Senate to pass this ruinous bill and do so now. Until the foes of this bill put even more pressure on Senate Democrats, and do it now, the nation will be saddled with a job-killing enormously expensive piece of needless legislation Senate Democrats will cave in and pass the bill. Here is a list of Democratic Senators up for re-election in November. They need to be told that a vote for this dangerous piece of legislation will cost them re-election in November: Bennet, Michael F. – (D – CO) Boxer, Barbara – (D – CA) Burris, Roland W. (D-Il) Dodd, Christopher J. – (D – CT) Dorgan, Byron L. – (D – ND) Feingold, Russell D. – (D – WI) Inouye, Daniel K. – (D – HI) Leahy, Patrick J. – (D – VT) Lincoln, Blanche L. – (D – AR) Mikulski, Barbara A. – (D – MD) Murray, Patty – (D – WA) Reid, Harry – (D – NV) Schumer, Charles E. – (D – NY) Specter, Arlen – (D – PA) Wyden, Ron – (D – OR) If your senator is on this list make every effort possible to let him or her know that you will do everything in your power to defeat them in November if they vote for this dangerous bill.
