"Former Defense Secretary James Mattis rebuked President Trump on Wednesday, accusing him of fomenting violence at the U.S. Capitol and poisoning Americans' respect for fellow citizens. 'Today's violent assault on our Capitol, an effort to subjugate American democracy by mob rule, was fomented by Mr. Trump,' read a statement by Mattis obtained by Fox News. 'His use of the Presidency to destroy trust in our election and to poison our respect for fellow citizens has been enabled by pseudo political leaders whose names will live in infamy as profiles in cowardice,' Mattis said. 'Our Constitution and our Republic will overcome this stain and We the People will come together again in our never-ending effort to form a more perfect Union, while Mr. Trump will deservedly be left a man without a country.'" -- Jim Mattis
"Former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper thinks former President Donald Trump is 'unfit for office' and that the GOP should look elsewhere for a primary candidate. 'I think he's unfit for office,' he said in an interview with CNN. 'I thought his remarks [on running in 2024] were very subdued and uninspiring.'" -- Mark Esper

"Former White House chief of staff, retired Marine Gen. John Kelly, has said that President Trump 'is the most flawed person' he's ever known, CNN reported. 'The depths of his dishonesty is just astounding to me. The dishonesty, the transactional nature of every relationship, though it's more pathetic than anything else. He is the most flawed person I have ever met in my life,' Kelly has told friends." -- John Kelly
"[Former U.S.] National Security Advisor John Bolton berated his former boss, President Donald Trump, over his lack of knowledge dealing with Russia during his presidency. Bolton appeared on the far-right Newsmax network's Rob Schmitt Tonight disagreeing with the host's opinion that Trump had been hard on Russia while he was in office, saying Trump was not competent to be president. When Schmitt said the Trump administration's approach was 'pretty tough on Russia, in a lot of ways,' Bolton disagreed. Bolton argued that Trump 'didn't understand what he was doing in regards to Russia'. -- John Bolton
"Former Vice President Mike Pence said then-President Donald Trump 'endangered me and my family and everyone at the Capitol building' during the Jan. 6 riot. 'The president's words were reckless and his actions were reckless, Pence told ABC's David Muir of his clear anger at his commander-in-chief as rioters stormed the Capital in 2021. 'It was clear he decided to be part of the problem,' insisted Pence in his most blunt account of his anger from that day." -- Mike Pence
"Former acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said Tuesday on CNN's 'Anderson Cooper 360' that his old boss, former President Donald Trump is the only Republican who can't win the 2024 general election. "After Trump announced his candidacy, Cooper asked, 'Do you think this is good for the Republican Party?' "Mulvaney said, 'No, I don't. Because I think he's the only Republican who could lose. If he wins in 2024, now he's the candidate. He is the likely Republican nominee. Can he be beaten head-to-head by Ron Desantis or Tim Scott? Sure. But it's not going to be a head-to-head race. There will be five or six other people in the race, and he'll get the 35% that really support him, and under the winner-take-all primary system, he'll be the nominee.' "He added, 'That means the 2024 race is not about Joe Biden or whatever Democrat is on the ticket, not about inflation, not about world events, not about abortion. It will be about Donald Trump, the same thing we saw in 2020.'" -- Mick Mulvaney
"Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson painted a scathing picture of his old boss President Donald Trump as someone who made uninformed decisions that were not based in reality – a stark contrast to Trump's top diplomat Mike Pompeo, who is heaping praise on the outgoing President in his final days in office. "'His understanding of global events, his understanding of global history, his understanding of U.S. history was really limited. It's really hard to have a conversation with someone who doesn't even understand the concept for why we're talking about this,' Tillerson said in a lengthy interview with Foreign Policy conducted prior to Wednesday's assault on the Capitol that was published this week. "Tillerson, who was ousted in March 2018, told the magazine, 'I used to go into meetings with a list of four to five things I needed to talk to him about, and I quickly learned that if I got to three, it was a home run.'" -- Rex Tillerson
