Hudak Calls For Relief For Families in Budget 2011

QUEEN’S PARK — Today at Queen’s Park, Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak and PC Finance Critic Norm Miller took the opportunity to put forward recommendations to the Premier on initiatives to create well-paying private sector jobs, to get government focused on the services that matter to families, and to give families the relief they deserve in the 2011 Budget.

During the course of the pre-budget hearings, the Ontario PC caucus heard from dozens of industry leaders and hardworking Ontario families on how to get Ontario moving forward again. All across Ontario, families are saying that they simply cannot afford skyrocketing hydro bills and the HST. In the next election, Ontario families will have a clear choice between the McGuinty Liberals who think that families have an endless ability to pay for their expensive energy experiments and Tim Hudak and the Ontario PCs who will offer real relief. We are calling on him to table a budget that focuses on job creation, getting government spending under control, and giving respect and relief to Ontario families.” -- Tim Hudak, Ontario PC Leader QUICK FACTS: Given the advice and feedback the Ontario PC received during the Pre-Budget Committee hearings, they call on the McGuinty government to: Tax Relief: Scrap the eco tax on TVs, computers and DVD and Blu-ray players, and commit to not introducing any new taxes – such as school board taxes, a new eco tax on vehicles or a carbon tax. Focus Government Spending: Fix the broken arbitration system and ensure that public sector agreement reflect the ability of families to pay the bills. Scrap his wasteful LHIN bureaucracy and invest those tax dollars into front line healthcare. Establish a mandatory Sunset Review process that forces every government body to justify their existence and continued value to the public. Stimulate Private Sector Job Creation: Stop corporate welfare schemes that pick winners and losers, appoint a member of his cabinet responsible for meeting measurable targets on red tape reduction, and commit to investing in job creating infrastructure projects like the Mid-Pen and 407 East highways.
