(Jim Ferguson) Hungarian authorities say they have uncovered a major financial smuggling operation linked to Ukraine, involving huge amounts of cash and gold moving across Europe.
Seven Ukrainian nationals — including a former Ukrainian general — have reportedly been arrested after investigators intercepted an operation attempting to move:
• $40 million
• €35 million
• 9 kilograms of gold
The funds were allegedly being transported from Austria through Hungary toward Ukraine.
Even more startling, Hungarian investigators claim that since January 2026 alone, roughly $900 million and 146 kilograms of gold have flowed through Hungary into Ukraine through similar channels.
If confirmed, the scale of the transfers raises serious questions about where the money originated, who organized the network, and what it was ultimately funding.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and could expose a far wider financial pipeline operating across Europe.
