MARKHAM, ON, - Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced today sales of 11,717 units in August, a new record for the month and an increase of 1.8% as compared to the same period last year. The company's year-to-date sales now stand at 96,209 units, up 3.5% from the first eight months of 2011.
The popularity of Hyundai's unique Veloster three-door coupe continued in August with a new monthly sales record of 691 units. Sales of the Elantra nameplate saw similar gains, climbing by 11.1% over an already-strong month of August in 2011. This accelerated sales pace can be attributed in part to the recent addition of the new two-door Elantra Coupe and 5-door Elantra GT. "Though I'm proud of our continued success this year, I remain even more optimistic about the next four months," said Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. "In September we'll be shaking up the crossover segment with the introduction of the all-new, third-generation 2013 Santa Fe. With bold styling, powerful but fuel efficient engines, and an unprecedented level of premium features, we think the Santa Fe brings welcome evolution to a traditionally staid and boring category."

In August, Hyundai vehicles consuming 5.0 L/100 km or less represented 56.2% of total sales. The Accent subcompact, Elantra family of compacts, Veloster 3-door coupe, and Sonata Hybrid intermediate sedan all consume fuel at rates of 5.0 L/100 km or less on the highway. The company's Certified Pre-Owned vehicle program sold 988 units for the month to bring the year-to-date total to 8,383, representing increases of 89.3% and 466%, respectively.
