MARKHAM, ON, - Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced today that it sold 11,403 units in September, an increase of 2.6% year-over-year. In doing so, the company has extended its sales growth streak to 45 consecutive months. Heading into the fourth quarter of 2012, Hyundai has sold 107,612 vehicles in Canada, 3.4% more than in the same period last year.
With sales of 5,054 units, September was by far the best month in the history of the Elantra nameplate, eclipsing the previous record by over 17%. "Though the fourth-generation Elantra sedan has sold extremely well since its release, the recently-introduced five-door Elantra GT and two-door Elantra Coupe have really shifted sales into a higher gear," said Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. "With these two new variations, we've taken everything that's made the sedan a success and provided our customers with more choice. On one hand, we have the European-designed Elantra GT with five-door practicality and enjoyable driving dynamics. On the other is the sleek two-door Elantra Coupe, perfect for buyers who want the style and fuel economy of the sedan but aren't ready for the 'family car' image."

In September, Hyundai vehicles consuming 5.0 L/100 km or less represented 64.1% of total sales. The Accent subcompact, Elantra family of compacts, Veloster 3-door coupe, and Sonata Hybrid intermediate sedan all consume fuel at rates of 5.0 L/100 km or less on the highway. The company's Certified Pre-Owned vehicle program sold 876 units for the month to bring the year-to-date total to 9,259, representing increases of 50% and 348%, respectively. Quick Facts: Hyundai Auto Canada, established in 1983 and headquartered in Markham, Ontario, is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea.
