Religious intolerance, Heavy taxes and Big Government

I am an Immigrant

Like the first immigrants to the New World in the late 15th century, I came by boat and I am proud to say I became an American by choice.
When I arrived in 1964 it was in fact in Montreal, Canada, because the quota system would not allow me immediate access to the United States. Back then, only a certain number of immigrants were allowed in each year to make sure the country did not become overcrowded with jobless foreigners who could not contribute to the economy of America. The American government back then looked out for its citizens. So I waited in Canada for two years and made frequent visits over the border to check on my application for a “Green Card” in Buffalo, New York. Eventually I was notified that I had been accepted for immigration and I drove over the border at the Peace Bridge to settle in my new homeland. I came legally. I did not sneak across a border. I did not get a temporary visa and then overstay the limit. I waited patiently until I was able to do it legally. I did not ask for public assistance, welfare, or free health care. I did not demand that the United States change its religion or its culture to accommodate me. I did not disappear into a foreign community only to reappear once a month to get a government handout. I did not stockpile bombs and guns to fight against the United States. I did not vote until I was privileged to do so as an American Citizen, and I have voted in every election since then. I did not expect Americans to work to enable me to live work-free. I did not even demand that somebody give me a job. I used my head and a lot of hard work to build a business to support me and my family. I knew full well that the United States had established a way of life over a period of two centuries that worked better than any previous society in the world before it, and I intended to contribute.

Instead of complaining, demanding and going to court to change things to the way I wanted them, I pitched in with all my heart to help America stay the strongest, most peaceful, most generous nation in the world. It was a nation that was blessed by Almighty God more than any other because Americans believed in, and trusted, God, and worked together to help their fellow man. When America went to war against Communist tyranny in South East Asia, I led rallies and marches with gifted speakers to give our troops moral support. I was past the age of joining the military but I did my part on the home front. I proudly flew the American flag from a high flagpole in my front yard with a spotlight at night for all to see it. I was invited to television talk shows and news shows to tell why a young man born in England loved the United States so much. I had a daily talk radio show in Detroit in the late sixties that I paid for myself to promote the American way of life and Judeo-Christian values. I can say with pride that I contributed more than my share. America was founded for two basic reasons. European traders wanted to bring home new foods and # to sell in their markets. At the same time devoutly religious people wanted a place where they could worship God in freedom in their own way. And when you look back at it these are the two hallmarks that have made America great for more than two centuries. This nation has led the world through two world wars and many smaller ones to promote freedom. America has been generous in helping backward nations with financial assistance, education, medicine, and infrastructure. Our people even helped our enemies, Germany and Japan, to reestablish their economies after the War and become thriving democracies. Much of the education and medical assistance was taken around the world by Christian organizations who also brought the Bible to those nations and made them better for it. Yes, America has proved to be a great force for good in this world in so many ways. But that greatness has been all but destroyed because of America’s generosity. The nation invited young people from all over the world to come and study at our Universities on scholarships. Yet evil men in other countries sought to use that generosity to send young people who did not really want to study, but to destroy America. America opened her doors to allow in immigrants from all parts of the world. But over the past few decades many of those immigrants came, not to be a blessing to America, but a curse. They came, not to work for America, as I did, but against her. They came not to escape religious persecution like so many of the early settlers but to force America to turn her back on God and take on new, cultic religions that would eventually destroy her. One might wonder how so many unworthy, and even anti-American, anti- God, immigrants could be allowed in over the past few decades when for me it took years of persistence. One might wonder how these people could arrive on our shores and immediately get public assistance and welfare and get free operations in American hospitals. A few patriotic legislators have tried to put a stop to the hordes of anti-Americans and send them back to their own countries. But they have found that they could not dissuade the majority of Senators and Representatives from passing the legislation that allowed the flood to continue. They report that in many cases it was adding to the list of voters who would keep those legislators in Congress decade after decade. Many reports have surfaced to show that illegal immigrants vote in Federal and local elections for legislators who favor their cause (The Cutting Edge August 13 2012) and many of those same legislators are the ones who demand an end to proof of citizenship before you can vote. It is also well known that the Hussein Obama administration has frequently prevented states in vulnerable areas from stopping illegal border crossings. It is speculated that this is because illegal immigrants will vote for more of the Obama debacle. Some Democratic Congressmen say they have no problem with illegal immigrants voting. (S’cuse me, what does “illegal” mean?) So, we may ask how the United States can continue being a free nation and a light to the world if anyone in the world can walk in and vote. Doesn’t this make a mockery of the whole American experience? The earliest immigrants to the New World came to North America because they were escaping religious intolerance, heavy taxes and Big Government in Europe. But now those are the very things that are plaguing the United States today. So thousands of Americans are looking for a NEW - New World in which we can live in Peace and Freedom with low taxes and a small government. I began searching about ten years ago when I saw how things were changing so quickly for the worse in the United States. Five years ago, after searching for information on more than forty countries, I decided that Costa Rica was the best place in the world for what I needed. It is a Catholic majority country and the Catholic church used to have a lot of influence in government but that has changed. Now there is total freedom of religion and what one might describe as an Evangelical revival. There is also a thriving Jewish community with several synagogues. The only sect that is not even mentioned in official statistics is Islam because there are only a handful of Muslims in the country. The government has been stable for about 70 years. Costa Rica has no army, but also no real enemies. Costa Rica is usually close to the top in the annual list of the world’s happiest countries. The government is described as Socialist but it is very mildly socialist when compared to Hugo Chavez or the Castro brothers. It is more like one of the Scandinavian countries. There is a welfare system and a total care health care system that costs us just $49 a month for two people. Taxes are so low as to be almost non-existent. The government is very quiet. We never seem to hear from them. There are no drones flying above our heads and no cameras watching everything we do. A small house has an annual tax rate of about $60 and a luxury house with pool is taxed at just $200 a year. People are friendly here. We live near a small village and most of the people there are our friends and several work for us. People wave as we pass them on the road and children can safely walk along the country roads without fear of molestation. I am no less patriotic toward the United States. I love the country and the people and always will. But millions of immigrants who came for the wrong reasons have changed the face of America for the worse and it can never again be what it was. Those legislators who are supposed to look out for the rights of American citizens have betrayed us all and with us – the world. Is this what the Founding Fathers wanted to happen to America?
