  • Ontarians deserve an apology for gas plant fiasco
TORONTO, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is calling on ex-Premier Dalton McGuinty and current Premier Kathleen Wynne to formally apologize to Ontarians for their roles in cancelling the gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga, costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. McGuinty took responsibility during his testimony for moving the plants and confirmed it was his decision, but he never apologized and claims he was in the dark over the explosive costs revealed last week.

“Mr. McGuinty was either completely incompetent as a money manager, or he wasn’t telling the whole story,” said CTF’s Ontario Director Candice Malcolm. “Or even worse, he was telling the truth, but simply didn’t care how much his decision would cost taxpayers.” Dalton McGuinty did not apologize for his role in this debacle. Echoing Premier Wynne’s testimony last week, he stressed that he “regrets” the situation, however, he did not say he is sorry. “It’s stunning the former Premier confirmed today that he made a political decision without any clue as how much it would cost taxpayers,” continued Malcolm. “Ontarians deserve a real apology.” “How are taxpayers supposed to trust this McGuinty-Wynne government?” Asked Candice Malcolm. “They’ve run up at least $585 million on this fiasco, they’re running another massive deficit this year of almost $12 billion, and taxpayers are expected to pay the tab and believe the budget will be balanced by 2018?” Candice Malcolm, CTF Ontario Director
