Washington D.C. - Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, applauded bipartisan legislation that approves the Keystone XL pipeline through Congress under Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, instead of through executive approval. This bill, which will be introduced today, is sponsored by Senators John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), and David Vitter (R-La.), and Senator Inhofe is one of the 44 cosponsors.
"I am pleased to join my colleagues as a cosponsor of this bipartisan effort that will allow the Keystone pipeline to be built through Congressional approval, instead of leaving the decision to President Obama who has already said 'no' to the tens of thousands of jobs that the pipeline would bring to appease his radical environmental friends," Senator Inhofe said. "The President has been going around the country touting oil and natural gas development because he knows Americans want new jobs and energy security, yet he stopped the project that would have done more than anything else to achieve those goals.
"With this bill, Congress can say 'yes' to tens of thousands of new American jobs. This pipeline will bring 1,200 jobs immediately to Oklahoma and 14,000 over the course of several years. Also, since our current infrastructure can't accommodate the large volume of crude oil we have in Cushing, Oklahoma, the Keystone pipeline is crucial because it will facilitate the transportation of our vast resources there, greatly increasing our energy security.
