If Canada were to establish an independent foreign policy, this country could be a leader in the development of humanitarian disaster relief, of peacekeeping operations, and of multilateral institutions that promote co-operation among nations.
The other option would be to pour billions of dollars into an arms race, integrate our Armed Forces with that of the Americans, and fight as an ally any time the US decides war is in its best interest. It is obvious which choice Stephen Harper's Conservative government has made, but does this represent the role for our military that the majority of Canadians want?
