Gives blistering assessment of US security plan

Israeli Defense Minister absolutely trashes 'messianic' John Kerry

Over the course of the last year, Secretary of State John Kerry has visited Israel a whopping 10 times. You would think that, with so much of his attention focused on the region, he would have accomplished ...something. Unfortunately, he may be the very reason that nothing is getting done. If Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon is to be believed, Kerry may actually be a part of the problem.
According to a report in Yediot Ahronot, Ya'alon is blasting both Kerry and the plan he hopes to enact.
"The American security plan presented to us is not worth the paper it's written on. It contains no peace and no security. Only our continued presence in Judea and Samaria and the River Jordan will ensure that Ben-Gurion Airport and Netanya don't become targets for rockets from every direction. American Secretary of State John Kerry, who turned up here determined and acting out of misplaced obsession and messianic fervor, cannot teach me anything about the conflict with the Palestinians."

Obviously, Ya'alon - who was IDF chief of staff from 2002-2005 - has the audacity to think he knows more about Israel's military situation than the marital heir to the Heinz ketchup fortune. He claims that, since Kerry showed up, there have been no negotiations with the Palestinians. In fact, all the pressure has been coming from the United States, via Kerry.
"There have been no negotiations between us and the Palestinians for all these months – but rather between us and the Americans. The only thing that can 'save us' is for John Kerry to win a Nobel Prize and leave us in peace. There are no actual negotiations with the Palestinians. The Americans are holding negotiations with us and in parallel with the Palestinians. So far, we are the only side to have given anything – the release of murderers – and the Palestinians have given nothing."
To be honest, I'm not sure what Ya'alon was expecting. This is hardly the first time we've heard of John Kerry being described as a self-absorbed glory hound. More importantly, if you're a U.S. ally in the Middle East, you can pretty much bet that the Obama administration is going to throw you under the Muslim Brotherhood's affiliate tour bus. Frankly, it sounds like everything here is par for the course. Don't worry, Israel, one day United States voters will put the grown ups back in charge.
