Jewish Community Urged to Exercise Caution

Toronto—B’nai Brith Canada, citing a report by the Counter Terrorism Bureau in Israel which warns of increased danger to Israeli and Jewish targets due to the upcoming anniversary of September 11 and the High Holidays, is urging members of the community and communal organizations to exercise caution.

“As events in the Middle East shift from day to day, threats from Israel’s neighbors against Israel and Jewish communities worldwide are ever increasing,” said Frank Dimant, CEO, B’nai Brith Canada. “It is important that synagogues and members of the community remain cognizant of these facts and use caution as the High Holidays approach.” “Discussions with police and security officials here in Canada have indicated that there are no specific threats to Canadian interests at this time. However, given that the threat appears directed at Jewish and Israeli targets worldwide, increased vigilance is in order. "In an emergency it may come down to a matter of seconds, this is why we are encouraging all Jewish institutions, synagogues and communal organisations to have a proper plan in place and follow B'nai Brith Canada's recommendations.”
