Joplin, Missouri, tornado leaves 89 dead, wake of destruction

By Elizabeth Flock, Washington Post A massive tornado tore through the southwest Missouri city of Joplin Sunday, cutting a path nearly six miles long and killing at least 89 people.

The storm also hit portions of the Midwest from Texas to Michigan and was reminiscent of the tornadoes that killed more than 300 people across the South last month.
