Colin Kaepernick releases video of the workout he hopes will persuade some team to forget all the trouble he caused I work out too. I could probably even hit my son on a crossing route at the Shrine High School football field - if there was no defense. It's worth remembering that Colin Kaepernick didn't get frozen out of the NFL solely because of the absolute disaster he caused the league with his anthem-kneeling, police-slandering nonsense and everything that came after it. Once his rookie contract expired, the 49ers had no interest in bringing him back because his performance severely regressed.
Defenses figured out his tendencies and he failed to make adjustments, perhaps because he became more interested in political activism than in working to be a better football player. Why didn't Kaepernick get offered a contract by anyone last year? It was a combination of his regression as a player and every team's realization that signing him would attract a media circus that would be nowhere near worth the trouble. Kaepernick is not even good enough at this point to start for a bad team. If anything, he's a backup, and when you're trying to win football games you don't need CNN and USA Today hanging around asking your backup quarterback about politics. There are plenty of other backup quarterbacks who will just quietly do their jobs. Now Kaepernick wants everyone to know he's working out in the hope he can persuade someone to take a flyer on him:

Is this going to work? If it does, it won't be because some general manager sees this and thinks, "Wow, he looks great and he's throwing well!" Lots of quarterbacks look great and throw well. Kaepernick remains the same high-risk, low-reward proposition he was a year ago. He's not going to help you that much even if you do sign him, and he's going to bring all kinds of baggage you don't need. My Vikings just lost all three of their quarterbacks to free agency. No problem. They signed Kirk Cousins and traded for Trevor Siemian, which at some point will probably inspire a finger-wagging Nancy Armour column in USA Today about how racist they are for not signing Kap. Mike Zimmer is a no-nonsense coach, and Kaepernick is a nothing-but-nonsense individual. Even so, you know the NFL. Roger Goodell gets very nervous when the loudest people start making noises, and if he thinks there's something he can do to pacify critics, he'll do it. Would the commish lean on some schlub team to sign Kaepernick in order to make the whole thing go away? That's exactly the opposite of what would happen, of course, but don't credit Roger Goodell with anything resembling forward thinking. What team would be stupid enough to do this, though? Oh. Right. Where do I live?
